Culture & Manipulation

To hear former Mary Kay sales director Kelly Brock tell it, MK almost ruined her life and her marriage. Which is why I was surprised to see her wearing a MK bumblebee ring in a recent Instagram story. Sure, she “earned” that by recruiting and/or ordering a lot. But is that something to be proud of? Unless, of course, she’s still coaching a lot of MLM participants and wants to be on the MLM bandwagon.

  1. Awe yes the amazing bumble bee. All of these slogans and sentimental stories that tug at our hearts. Those nostalgic stories about how wonderful MK herself was. A woman that cared about other women. She cared enough to mock husbands, twist words, remove cars if you don’t meet quotas, have products constantly change at the expense of the sales force and blame others for the very flawed and cruel mlm system. Thank goodness I wasn’t in long enough (and my SD mostly gave paper accolades) so I got rid of any cheap prizes almost immediately.

  2. Forget the bumble bee ring – I cannot get over the amount of filters used for this photograph of her. It’s an unrealistic image of perfection – which goes hand-in-hand with the unrealism of MLMs.

    • I thought the exact same thing. She doesn’t even look real. Reminds me of a department store mannequin. Yikes on bikes…?

  3. This is an interview with an ex Arbonne consultant who was in the top 1 procent and her boyfriend and I thought you might find it interesting because it really shows just how many similarities there are between mlm companies, https://youtu.be/44BvBerxi0A
