I Should Have Listened to Pink Truth
Written by Christie
I just wanted to tell you that I wish I would have listened to Pink Truth before! I joined MK when I was 22 and was totally sucked in to the “easy lifestyle” they all appeared to have.
After winning a car and becoming a director, I could not take being manipulated and told what to do for another minute.
Quitting Mary Kay was the most traumatic experience of my life! I was talked down to because I wanted a career in my field (art history) instead of living the “glamorous” Mary Kay lifestyle. The part that pisses me off the most is they (the directors in my area) genuinely believe that my life is sad and pathetic because I don’t flaunt my money like they do.
I’ve done a lot of terribly dumb things in my 25 years, but this is the one I regret the most. Thank you for having this site… Too bad I was told not to look at it because of the “negative energy” and that you were just someone that was bitter and unsuccessful in MK.
Wow, what a cult.
Congratulations on your escape, Christie!
Welcome! Now you know why you were told not to come here. Your upline didn’t want you to find out the truth of the pyramid and have a decline in their money source.
You don’t have to worry anymore about manipulating people to buy product they don’t need or can’t sell. You won’t feel the need to lie or embellish about your own income and success.
When you are encouraged to turn your customers into your competition, you know it’s a scam.
“After winning a car”
Oops, you’re not supposed to use that terminology. You are to say, “After earning the use of a Mary Kay career car…”
There are still people out there who believe MK reps actually win cars.
And until I got my first car, I didn’t know it was a lease. Seriously,
So true enorth. No one “wins” anything in MLM. Most MLMers just get a portion of their own spending back as a “bonus”. The overwhelming majority of money that comes back to an MLM rep comes from their own losses or the losses in their own down-line. Very, very little, if any, is associated with retail sales to “outside” customers.
Some MLMs “reward” distributors with product credit and/or shipping credit. The credits are promoted as a generous gift from the company. But the distributors get trapped into using the credits (which, of course, expire within a certain timeframe. You don’t want to lose them, right?) Have $100 in product credit? You’ll end up ordering/spending more than the credit amount.
A clever way to get distributors to order more products they don’t want, don’t need, and can’t sell.
“ Wow, what a cult.”
Yes, it meets the criteria. Mind control and brain washing is included. This is why it’s hard to leave. If you’re not successful it’s because of you. No, it’s because it’s not set up for you to be successful. It’s set up for the people who started it to make money and the corporation does see a profit. Not the consultants or directors…those people take the risk and pay the dues in many ways. And then they blamed…and blamed for leaving.
Welcome to the dark side. We have cookies.
You were not “dumb”! You were conned by a company with decades of experience in polishing the con … they took advantage of your inexperience, and your willingness to trust people. They “sold the sizzle”, and they LIED TO YOU about the business.
Such sad truth! I have been in MK for 5 years and am making a departure. I was a Future Executive Pink Cadillac Senior Sales Director! 🤮 So sick of all the manipulation and the fakeness. I thought I could be the change. Not true…these women are so wrapped up in themselves that nothing but God can change them. I am on the way out and forever grateful that I am leaving now! Sisterhood??? The shunning is in full effect!
Oh… the shunning. I’m so sorry.
The shunning is real. MK women are only your friend when you are wrapped up in the pink fog. It’s heartbreaking that these “friends for life” aren’t when you decide to step away.
It may not only be the level to which you are wrapped up in the pink fog. It also might be the level to which you are actively ordering and recruiting.
When folks run out of money in MLMs like Mary Kay…it’s time to kick ’em to the curb.
