No Secret to Mary Kay
The universe is going to get us for being so negative!
I’ve been in MK for 15 years and it’s been a very positive and totally enriching experience for me and my family as a single mom. It’s just too bad that you obviously have nothing better to do than send negativity out into the universe. With all that negativity going out there you will get it back. It’s called the Law of Cause and Effect, you’re making the cause and will get the effect.
I think your intent may be to help others but there is no secret to all that you’ve written. The marketing plan isn’t a pyramid because team building is a choice. Mary Kay Ash designed this business so that if all you wanted to do is make money from sales, you definitely could. It eliminates all the problems that come from consultants and directors from money problems.
You obviously don’t understand the concept of being your own retailer and providing immediate customer service to your customers. I’ve done it both ways by choice and spent too much time, energy and gas placing orders and setting up deliveries, then delivering product. When you tear apart the scripts, you’re tearing apart Mary Kay Ash’s own words of how to work in direct sales before she even created the company.
You know, Mary Kay, Inc. has no control over the few who have used this business for advancement using non-MK principles and have obviously somehow hurt or burned some people’s feelings, like yours. Neither do they have control over those like you, who trash the good that has come from this business.
It’s sad that you feel so strongly a need to use your time to perpetuating this negativity. Post this comment, won’t you? That would be being honest. Give a fair view of the whole picture.
Thanks Tracy, for posting this and giving us a fair view of the whole picture. LMAO!
“You obviously don’t understand the concept of being your own retailer and providing immediate customer service to your customers.”
OP, please demonstrate your business acumen by providing an example of just one MK downline that is profitable as a whole. Just one will do.
Once you realize that you are unable identify a single one…maybe you can use your hefty retail business knowledge to explain to us here exactly why this is true of every MLM like Mary Kay…but without blaming the downline.
In non-MLM retail businesses it is possible for everyone involved to make positive income. Not so in MLM companies like Mary Kay. The downline must lose money for the MLM system to function. Why is that?
I’ve been in MK for 15 years and it’s been a very positive and totally enriching experience for me and my family as a single mom.
So, proof, please. Let’s say your last five years 1099s and Schedule Cs. Otherwise I have to take your words at face value.

Wow! I love a nice bowl of word salad for breakfast but Ms. PTC, you will find it’s Mary Kay and other MLMs which are sending out the negative energy not us.
I think your intent may be to help others but there is no secret to all that you’ve written.
At least you are one of the few owning up to it.
The marketing plan isn’t a pyramid because team building is a choice.
Team building is indeed “A Choice” but it is one that makes the NSDs and SDs their money. So, guess what they promote for (general) you? Building a team and forming a new level in their pyramid.
Mary Kay Ash designed this business so that if all you wanted to do is make money from sales, you definitely could.
And how many of your compatriots are making bank doing that? None! Because we’d know if they were because they would be lauded to the skies for their constant ordering. Because Mary Kay Wagner Rogers Eckman Weaver Louis Miller Hallenbeck Ash’s company only tracks orders not sales. They’ve earned all the money they are interested in as soon as you parcel leaves the warehouse.
It eliminates all the problems that come from consultants and directors from money problems.
Yeah?
You obviously don’t understand the concept of being your own retailer and providing immediate customer service to your customers.
Guess you haven’t done any reading of people’s “I-Stories”? These are women who were successful in terms that Mary Kay Corp recognises. Cars and bars, rings and bling, sashes and stage-walks. They did it all. Didn’t matter once reality broke through.
I’ve done it both ways by choice and spent too much time, energy and gas placing orders and setting up deliveries, then delivering product.
Failed DIQ? Got it.
When you tear apart the scripts, you’re tearing apart Mary Kay Ash’s own words of how to work in direct sales before she even created the company.
Can I just say “Cult”? If some-one isn’t allowed to question the words of The Founder, what else can you call it?
You know, Mary Kay, Inc. has no control over the few who have used this business for advancement using non-MK principles and have obviously somehow hurt or burned some people’s feelings, like yours.
Yes, but MKC doesn’t discourage it neither. In fact they encourage rampant abuse since MKC only tracks ordering as a goal. This is the 2023 Canadian Income Disclosure. Over 98% of participants earn less than $208 per annum in commission which is the only goal recognised. These are the facts not the feelings.

Neither do they have control over those like you, who trash the good that has come from this business.
What good? I see no good in Mary Kay. The onus is on you to prove that Mary Kay is good.
It’s sad that you feel so strongly a need to use your time to perpetuating this negativity.
That we as a group feel strongly is a good thing. Just like all the people at r/antiMLM, all the anti-MLM FaceBook groups and all the anti-MLM content creators on other forms of social media. Protesting injustice is something everyone should do.
Post this comment, won’t you? That would be being honest.
Well, you got your wish. Posted and mocked.
Give a fair view of the whole picture.
Now, when will May Kay or her reps do the same to show a balanced platform???
Fair enough to ask for proof of her profit and losses.
Can you share where you found proof of all of Mary Kay’s husbands? Just curious that she had that many.
Why yes, yes we can.

“Mary Kay Ash designed this business so that if all you wanted to do is make money from sales, you definitely could.”
Codswallop. She designed the company so that money would flow uphill into the CEO’s, aka her, pockets.
It’s impossible to make money just from sales for one very simple reason: NO ONE WANTS THAT CRAP. The market is oversaturated, the products are overpriced, undersized, and inferior, and there are better priced, more ethical, more effective brands everywhere.
MK doesn’t track sales. They don’t reward IBCs for sales, only for recruitment and ordering a crapload of stuff.
If it was possible to make a living from selling, Cleta Colson Eyre wouldn’t have a room full of unsold products. Chelsea Adkins wouldn’t be giving the store away in the vain hope of trying to get a customer. People wouldn’t be on Facebook celebrating $90 in sales at a party that finally wasn’t canceled.
Now for the most important question: pants at Seminar, yes or no?
Shame on you, Popinki! The Good Lady Mary Kay, Herself, decreed “NO PANTS!!” Heretic!
Well this one did it. This one changed my mind. Her concrete facts and examples have shown me the way. I signed up for a starter kit today. May I borrow y’all’s face?
Here, I keep this extra one in a jar by the door.
Eleanor Rigby!
That’s one weird down-vote!
It’s not about negativity, it’s about telling the truth. She doesn’t understand many women on this site are former Sales Directors who did everything right, did their business the Mary Kay way. They are former Sales Queens, Go- givers and top recruiters. They had the suit, the diamonds and the cars. They used the scripts and did everything their Senior Directors and Nationals told them to do. But the lies they were living weighed heavy on their minds and they were able to break free. She calls it negativity, we call it the truth.
“The marketing plan isn’t a pyramid because team building is a choice.”—
False and bass ackwards. Retail sales to non-affiliates is the choice! And, that is what makes Mary Kay a product-based pyramid scheme.
“Mary Kay Ash designed this business so that if all you wanted to do is make money from sales, you definitely could.”—
You “could”, but you don’t have to, and that’s the problem. We just had a FB thread on Wednesday explaining that recruiting is the name of the game. You can make money in Mary Kay and never retail, or even use a Mary Kay product. All you need to do is recruit people to give money into the system.
Products are a decoy.
I’ve been in MK for 15 years and it’s been a… totally enriching experience…
I assume you mean this in an emotional sense rather than financial, but if the latter, could you please furnish a copy of your Schedule C?
It’s called the Law of Cause and Effect, you’re making the cause and will get the effect.
It’s called facing the facts. Sometimes, the facts are painful, but the alternative is living in denial, which is even more painful in the long run.
Thar’s not how cause and effect works, m’dear.
I second the request for a Schedule C, you can block out your name, address and Social Security number. Or just tell us how much profit you made in the last three years, nobody knows who you are.
But as we know that won’t happen.
