Final Queen of Ruby Seminar

Written by Parsons Green

Mary Kay honors the top wholesale purchasers every year at the Mary Kay Seminar. The company very cleverly refers to it as Queen of Sales, but those of use who are “in the know”…. know that no sales are ever tracked by anyone. They simply track what consultants buy from the company, pretend that it’s all sold at full price, and voila we have Magic Mary Kay Math.

At Mary Kay’s height in the U.S., there were five seminar divisions, their way of breaking up the sales force into groups and ensuring that everyone could fit into the Dallas Convention Center.

Currently there are four divisions: Diamond, Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire. In the past, each Division had their own dedicated seminar. This year there will only be two. Diamond and Ruby seminar will be July 24-27.  Emerald and Sapphire seminar will be July 28-31.

But after this year, the Ruby division will not exist. There will be only three divisions left (Diamond, Emerald, and Sapphire). There is no word on seminar, but it is likely that all will be combined into one event.

The two “courts” recognized at each seminar are the Queens Court of Sales and the Queens Court of Sharing. Here are the current requirements:

  • Queen of “Sales” – The $40,000 retail figure represents $20,000 in wholesale orders to the company. No retail sales to customers are tracked by Mary Kay. Directors and consultants are then ranked, and the top 20 are recognized by name on stage. However, only a maximum of $13,000 retail ($6,500 wholesale) per month counts toward the contest. In other words, you can’t buy $50k wholesale in one month to try to win the contest.
  • Queen of Sharing – You must have 24 new consultants who have all placed at least a $600 wholesale order in one calendar month. Again, the top 20 are recognized on stage. The ranking will only count a maximum of 13 consultants per month.

Mary Kay recently announced that this will be the last year they will have a Ruby division. All consultants currently in Ruby will be divided up between the three remaining divisions.

And so our old friend and serial Mary Kay nsd never-to-be, Heather Daniel Kent, has named it and claimed it that she will be the final Queen of Sharing of the Ruby Seminar.

Heather has her mind sent on this goal. With the $20 EStart extended for yet another month, she has all the tools needed to earn this prize. But her Mary Kay career has been a series of failures, most prominently, “claiming” nsd over and over, only to never, ever get close.

The top three “Queens” in the Ruby Seminar for 2024 were all daughters of retired NSD’s who were able to gift their personal units to their daughters who are “actively” (wink) working their units.

Will Heather be the Final Ruby Queen? Her chances are as likely as any of her EStart consultants placing a second inventory order. But just for fun, maybe we should all weigh in on the odds of her doing it?

  1. “I’ve never been Queen of anything.”

Well, that makes at least two of us. Trust me, you’ll be just fine not having that appellation.

  2. My friend, who is still an active consultant, was telling me about how they were structuring Seminar this year. It sounds boring with a lot of “free” time to do what? Go shopping? Find a restaurant to eat at? She also said her scheduled Awards “night” was from 3-8pm. No day zero Mary Kay Museum tours due to the fact Seminar is in Charlotte, NC. My guess is attendance will be way down this year.

  3. It would be interesting to know what percentage of every order goes to pay those retired NSDs, not to mention commissions to the current upline.

This is why these products are so expensive, making them nearly impossible to sell outside the downline.

Just for kicks, I did a little digging on NSD compensation…these ladies are the ones making money. Based on this one IRS audit, one NSD (Christine Peterson) made over $200K in 2009 in retirement income alone. That means she was averaging over $300K/year in her final MK NSD years. Clearly this is the target MK xSDs are aiming for.

These few at the top are sucking the funds out of the downline…such that tens of MILLIONS of women have lost money to MK over the years to make this tiny group at the tippy top wealthy.

It would be impressive if these ladies had created something meaningful. Instead, they just built and sat on the top of a huge money-sucking pyramid. Not exactly something to be proud of.

  4. One time, I helped out a customer of mine. I don’t remember what, exactly, but she was so grateful that she gave me a dollar and told me to buy a lottery ticket. I went and bought a Coke because a lottery ticket would have been wasting a perfectly good dollar.

As for Heather’s chances… wishes and $2.79 will win her a Coke.

  5. What do queens actually do, anyway? It’s the princesses and evil sorceresses who have all the action.

Me, I was 13 when the animated Little Mermaid came out and I wanted to be Ursula. I’ve got the figure and the hairdo…

  6. “This is the year to crush some of those lies that I’ve been telling myself (you know the ones).”

Like the one where you’re going to be an NSD this year (or ever)?

Also, which Queen does she want to be? And what if someone else wants to be that queen as well? Ain’t gonna be any “running together” then!

  7. Is that Linda’s daughter? Queen of a Seminar? She didn’t do anything to grow that unit! I know NSDs can hand their unit to their director daughters, but it really hurts those who did all the work to grow a unit. One year one of my consultants qualified for a 4 quarter star and they were giving old star consultant gifts out and a few people would get former QUeen of Sales rings. She got a FREE Queen of Sales ring (albeit the wrong size) for being a 4 quarter star. You should have seen the look on the Director’s face who heard that while we were eating lunch. She was heart broken and said, “I just about killed myself earning that ring, and she got it for being a 4 quarter star?!” So sad. Do the work to earn the prize or it hurts not only you, but other people watching.

    • Yep, that’s Linda’s daughter, Katie (insert whatever name she’s using for her music here) Toupin. My theory is that Linda and Linda’s team run the unit, and Katie is a figurehead and director in name only. Katie has been too focused on running a now-failed animal rescue farm, and breaking up with her fiancé weeks before the wedding, and a country music career via a Go Fund Me site.

      • LOL I can’t with Katie – her new country name is Candy Jenkins! She is retired from making music as Katie. And to make the gossip even spicier, she and her finance broke up the DAY of the wedding.
