Helping Women One By One
Pink Truth has been around a long time. We started on July 4, 2006, first as “Mary Kay Sucks” and then becoming Pink Truth a few months later. That’s almost TWENTY years ago. And at the time, Mary Kay Inc., the NSDs, and the sales directors all lost their collective minds. How dare we expose their scam.
It was fun for them to call us liars… while lying about us. But corporate had a pretty good strategy: wait it out. It was a good strategy because nearly all of the sites criticizing MLMs went dark after a several months. People were afraid of being sued, or they just got tired of the daily grind of keeping a site active. So Mary Kay Inc. assumed Pink Truth would meet the same fate.
But we were reaching so many women that I couldn’t let the site go. At first we got a lot of traffic because it was shocking that someone was exposing the dirty tactics of MK. And there were Mary Kay supporters who would come and argue with us, creating a scene that attracted more visitors.
I assumed that over time, the interest would wane. Would you believe interest is just as strong today as it was in the first year? We’re getting over a million visitors a year to Pink Truth. I want to keep things going for all those people who are researching and learning.
As fun as that statistic is, it is the ability to help one woman at a time. Each time I get an email from someone whose eyes were opened to the MLM scam, it’s worth the hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars I’ve devoted to Pink Truth. Here’s one of the notes, and it’s women like this that encourage me to keep the site going…
I wanted to contact you to thank you personally for helping me find out how to cancel my Mary Kay business. There has been no help out there except for your site and it saved me a lot of time and trouble. I am a college student going into my sophomore year with hardly any money to pay for rent, and I was sucked into Mary Kay by my Christian sorority advisor. Once I started researching Mary Kay (after I already purchased the starter kit) I realized what I was actually getting myself into.
Thank God your website was there to explain everything before it was too late for me. I am truly thankful that you dedicated your time and effort to help spread awareness on this luxurious pyramid scheme. I can’t imagine what would have happened to me financially and emotionally. Again, thank you so much for giving clear instructions on how to quit Mary Kay. I am very grateful for all of the information you have provided to help me make a decision about this business.
Tracy, your formula of fresh content every day works to keep engagement up. Giving a voice to your critics on Fridays is brilliant as well!
I enjoy starting my day with Pink Truth…keep up the great work! In my retirement I hope to start my own anti-MLM web site creating specific forecasting models of different MLM companies. I’ve done this as one-offs for many MLMs over the years, but I have yet to consolidate into a single site. Your engagement model is an inspiration.
What I like most about Pink Truth is the caring heart of you and your contributors. Your goal is not to bash Mary Kay (although that happens)…the goal is to educate women to steer them clear of the dangers that come with involvement in this company and other companies that share the MLM business model, and to support those who just got out or want to get out. While this may anger those still on the “inside”, I believe many of these folks who find Pink Truth feel they have permission, maybe for the first time, to question the outrageous BS coming from their up-line.
Unlike what MKC is peddling, this is true empowerment!
You’re so sweet!
And unlike MK and it’s reps, I have nothing to gain from providing information here. I make no money from this. (In fact, it’s cost me money.) And I’ve literally spent thousands of hours on this project. 🙂
Closer to 20 years ago. Pretty impressive level of resolve to showcase MK for the scam it is.
Contributing to Pink Truth is one of my favorite pastimes!!! I love the community that we have here!
I love this site!
I love starting my day with the Pink Truth!
I truly wish this site would have been around when I was in MK (2003-2005). I just missed the start date of this site. Anyway there were so many “questions” I had when I was in MK and long story short nothing really got answered. I cut ties because I wasn’t making any money. I didn’t know at the time I could have sent some stuff back, because unfortunately I believed you could only do that within your 1st year after you started. Which I know now is just a myth/lie that I had absorbed. Directors didn’t want any charge backs…again didn’t know that was even a thing then.
When I imploded publicly on this blog 20 years ago, so many reached out to save me! I started writing
posts about my experience in mk and it became a healing therapy for me. When I finally found gainful employment again, Tracy sent me gift cards for some new clothes. Who does that? I was supported by PT members as I worked to get my licenses and certifications back. I was finally able to meet my dream team IN person for the first time after years of phone calls and emails when we appeared on 20/20. And we finally had our Vegas reunion adventure after years of talking about it. These women are the friends who I can talk to and we just pick up even if we haven’t talked for months. These women came into my life for a reason and I am so thankful for them! Love you Tracy and PP! Thank you many times over for your work for this blog and this wonderful community!
