What has this world come to?? What are you thinking??? You all are bitter, bitter women that can’t find anything else better to do with your time. Get a life!!!
I am completely blown away that you would start a website like this!!! Do you think that we are all stupid, that we can’t think for ourselves??? I can not believe that you all started your Mary Kay businesses and put yourselves in a financial hole!!! That is too funny!!! Whats even better is that you blame your failure onto Mary Kay Inc.??? Did they put a gun to your heads???? Tell me something…. are you gutting Avon?? What other MLM companies did you fail at that you are gutting??
The hate and discontent in this website is way out of control!!! You ladies really need to get a life and allow us to find out if the Mary Kay world is for us. I get it, it wasn’t for you…. do I care??? No!!! Everyone has different situations and life stories…. it doesn’t mean that my story will turn out like yours!!! I’ve used the product for 15 years, but never really looked into the company itself….. but because I have stumbled onto your website, I am more intrigued now to prove you all wrong. Yep. 0.4%. If you randomly select 1000 MLM participants and put them in a room, you will find that, on average, only 4 of them are not losing money. You have do this over and over again to snag someone making any real money. But the losses in every room are significant.
Every MLM downline is losing money. There is no way around this. No amount of effort can change this outcome. These loss rates are built into these pay-to-play endless-chain recruiting schemes, and provide the up-line cash flow. This is where the money comes from, since so little product is ever sold to outside customers.

If you ever consider becoming a consultant, please, PLEASE, demand to see your recruiter’s tax returns (Schedule C) first, for as many years as they’ve been a consultant. Just as you don’t blindly trust this forum, please don’t blindly trust Mary Kay either. Force them to prove that this is a viable way to make a living.

I hope you’ll reconsider, because I believe you’re making a mistake. But as I already said, no one here has the power to stop you.
If you manage to prove us wrong, come back with the actual numbers and rub it in, by all means. Show us 1) how much money your Mary Kay efforts bring in, 2) how much Mary Kay costs you in terms of product, training, and other expenses, and 3) how many total hours you worked, including time spent placing orders, cold calling, etc., not just time at house parties. These are the only criteria by which we can see whether you succeeded or not.
So far, not one critic of this website has ever come back with actual numbers to prove that the ladies here are wrong. Not one. Why do you suppose that is?

I have a life, my eldest graduated this week and I spent a few days with her and her siblings. My plans for the next few days do not involve trying to met some-one else’s goal so their life is better at the expense of mine.

Given that most of the former MK contributors were directors and higher, no I don’t think your story will. You’ll almost certainly remain on the DIQ wheel for a very long time, producing a never-ending stream of money and recruits for the benefit of some-one else.

I kept records of every dollar in and every dollar out. I did not purchase inventory. I got out because the amount of time I spent on it wasn’t worth the amount of money I made.

However, the woman who recruited me gained some measure of trust with me and then tried hard to push me into purchasing inventory. So yeah, it wasn’t armed robbery. Let me preface this by saying I don’t have kids – but this is the line that got me

As a kid that had parents who worked full time jobs, and was a latch key kid, (the whole neighborhood actually were latch key kids.). This mindset kills me.
My parents still raised me, just because occasionally I may had to stay with a neighbor or had a babysitter, or went to my parents best friends houses because my mom & dad both had to work overtime doesn’t mean my parents didn’t care or didn’t raise me
Quite honestly it was good that some other non family members had influence over my formative years, my parents don’t know everything and I was exposed to a lot of different lifestyles and have a wide variety of friends that I have known since being a toddler.
Also for the record a lot of the kids who had parents who worked and had other raise them as you believe happens when parents work, in my experience are a lot more tolerant of other ideas and lifestyles than those who haven’t been.

Add me to the bandwagon. As long as the childcare place is safe, clean, and well-staffed, what’s wrong with kids getting to meet other kids and adults? They get to play with different toys than they have at home. They get unstructured time, which is so important for developing minds. The providers aren’t “raising” your children; they’re just supervising them for part of a day and at the end of the day they come home to you.
My mother was a SAHM until I went into grade school and mostly kept me under her very weighty thumb. I was never allowed to be around other kids unless they were family. When I went to kindergarden, I had no idea how to even be around strangers. I had zero backbone and found it totally unfair that other kids got away with stuff at school that would earn me a draconian punishment at home. Hell, one time I got in trouble with the teacher for eating a granola bar during class, which I was only eating because my mother would raise the roof if I didn’t eat the snacks she packed for me.
I think that if I’d been around normal people at an earlier age I’d have been better off and better able to handle the real world. It sucked to be foofed-up in the head at 5.
Gen Xer here. We were all latch-key kids at some point. The neighbors kept an eye on us to make sure we made it inside the house after getting off the bus. We didn’t have after-school programs unless you count sports or clubs. Then it was the collect call from “Practice is over and I need a ride home.”
