You Would Rather Complain Than Work

A note from a Mary Kay troll…

It seems that those who created this page simply have an ax to grind and can’t stand the idea of any woman having ambition, a positive and uplifting product, or success. Mary Kay is like any other business in so far as it takes a certain personality type to succeed in its structure and sell its products.

Mary Kay treats women like thinking adults who are the best judge of their own character and personality, and who can decide for their own selves whether they can succeed in the company. The fact that they do not hold extensive personality tests and interviews to see if there is a personality match is smart on their part because they show that they are not judging a woman and her ability to succeed in the business.

Many people want success, but they don’t want to do the leg work it takes to make it. When they don’t make it, they don’t take responsibility for their decisions and actions [or lack of actions], rather they look to the company as the “dog to kick”. After all, it’s easy enough to kick a nameless, faceless company and a lot better on the conscience than examining your own motives, personality, decisions and behavior. That might take WORK too! And it seems this whining crowd is made of life’s losers who are sufficiently content to complain forever about the things they fail to accomplish while blaming everyone around them. How terribly weak and sad.

Before I joined Mary Kay, I asked anyone I knew who had left selling the product why they left. Not one of them told me they didn’t make any money or that it was a pyramid or a scam. In fact, I had two women tell me that the ONLY way to lose with MK was to sit and do nothing! I had two tell me that they left because their husbands had problems with them working. I had one tell me she left because she was overworked at her regular job and her husband would not help her with the baby and she was contemplating divorce. In other words, everyone I knew who ever sold MK and stopped had stopped b/c of personal problems, not b/c of any of the allegations listed in this site.

I started MK with $108 for the basic kit and I have NEVER been given a quota. I have never been told that I wouldn’t make money if I didn’t recruit. I have never been required to spend a lot of money on inventory. And the structure of MK is definitely NOT a pyramid. Your social security is structured in a pyramid and that’s why it is collapsing. But MK is no where near failure.

When the great principles of capitalism, such as laissez faire, are actively in place — such as is practiced in MK, there will always be complainers who simply envy people who have get up and go. I have often told other women, “You want what I have, but are you willing to DO what I have to do to have it?” Sadly, many do not because they simply want something for nothing and would rather complain that work.

Last word: You reap what you sow; don’t blame others or your company if you reap failure while sitting on your wide one.

  1. Ah, victim blaming with a side of fat shaming. I’ll take a kind and compassionate fatass over, well, YOU any day.

  2. Life’s losers?? Judge much?? Ick. I’m a woman who took a step back from it ALL when life shoved me down the stairs. I got up from the fall and looked at all the choices I made and decided the pink party needed to go. The list of reasons is long. I will continue to overcome the feeling that I am a “loser” because of the seeming “failures” in my rear view mirror.
So thanks for the words of encouragement!

  3. PTC, you say the MK sales model can work. Then why is every MK downline losing money in the aggregate? If what you say is true, surely someone would have created a successful downline after these many decades. Why haven’t they?

Strangely, for a group which you claim “have an ax to grind “against successful women, this group is full of those successful ladies.

Mary Kay is like any other business in so far as it takes a certain personality type to succeed in its structure and sell its products.

It requires some-one who’s prepared to throw good money after bad.

Mary Kay treats women like thinking adults who are the best judge of their own character and personality, and who can decide for their own selves whether they can succeed in the company.

They CAN succeed but the odds are stacked against them.

The fact that they do not hold extensive personality tests and interviews to see if there is a personality match is smart on their part because they show that they are not judging a woman and her ability to succeed in the business.

I guess this is how serial scammer Monique was spotted early on in her career. Thus avoiding Mary Kay Wagner Rogers Eckman Weaver Louis Miller Hallenbeck Ash’s company the embarrassment of having to terminate her contract after she was exposed for her fraudulent practices. Oh! Wait!!!

Many people want success, but they don’t want to do the leg work it takes to make it. When they don’t make it, they don’t take responsibility for their decisions and actions [or lack of actions], rather they look to the company as the “dog to kick”.

(General) you can’t “make it” in MLMs because the odds are heavily stacked against you from the first day.

After all, it’s easy enough to kick a nameless, faceless company and a lot better on the conscience than examining your own motives, personality, decisions and behavior.

I’ve seen enough Marian shrines to know that the very public face of Mary Kay is front and centre of this not nameless nor faceless company.

That might take WORK too! And it seems this whining crowd is made of life’s losers who are sufficiently content to complain forever about the things they fail to accomplish while blaming everyone around them.

Ma’am, if you had read even one story here, you would know that this is the last thing done here. Everyone here who was in Mary Kay have acknowledged both the good and bad things they have done while perusing their careers. They have taken the accountability for their own actions and they have certainly not shifted the blame.

    How terribly weak and sad.

What’s sad and weak is not what is displayed here on Pink Truth. It’s the story of strong women and men coming forward to shine a light on dishonest business practices.

Before I joined Mary Kay, I asked anyone I knew who had left selling the product why they left. Not one of them told me they didn’t make any money or that it was a pyramid or a scam. In fact, I had two women tell me that the ONLY way to lose with MK was to sit and do nothing!

You are aware that people lie to make themselves look better?

I had two tell me that they left because their husbands had problems with them working.

DA Translation: their husbands were tired of them being in debt and wasting the family’s money.

I had one tell me she left because she was overworked at her regular job and her husband would not help her with the baby and she was contemplating divorce.

DA translation: her husband was fed up of his wife constantly putting their child and marriage on the back burner and had threatened HER with divorce. And why did she have a regular job in the first place if MK was bringing in executive pay for part time work?

In other words, everyone I knew who ever sold MK and stopped had stopped b/c of personal problems, not b/c of any of the allegations listed in this site.

How many of those personal problems were CAUSED by the company whether or not the person you allegedly spoke to admitted it? You don’t know because those people have the capacity to acknowledge the truth are the one that MKBots are told to ignore.

I started MK with $108 for the basic kit and I have NEVER been given a quota.

That’s a lie. You have to spend $225 per quarter to keep active. it’s a quota even if you don’t believe it.

I have never been told that I wouldn’t make money if I didn’t recruit.

Then why does Mary kay only issue income disclosures that show on the commissions made by rank and not what each salesperson made through sales externally? Because they don’t track external sales because those do not matter to the company. (General) you might indeed make bank selling to your customers but unless you are ordering large volumes of product you’re not counted.

I have never been required to spend a lot of money on inventory.

I hope for your sake that is true.

And the structure of MK is definitely NOT a pyramid.

    The evidence shows differently.

Your social security is structured in a pyramid and that’s why it is collapsing.

I’m not touching the political issues of a country I don’t live in.

But MK is no where near failure.

No, but the people who do not work in corporate have a different experience.

When the great principles of capitalism, such as laissez faire, are actively in place — such as is practiced in MK, there will always be complainers who simply envy people who have get up and go.

And there are some who actively exploit those who have the “get up and go” mindset.

I have often told other women, “You want what I have, but are you willing to DO what I have to do to have it?”

What is it that you actually DO? And what do you tell women who don’t want to DO it?

Sadly, many do not because they simply want something for nothing and would rather complain that work.

    Sure Jan GIF.

Last word: You reap what you sow; don’t blame others or your company if you reap failure while sitting on your wide one.

A nice one-two combination of victim and fat shaming. You must be a pleasant person to hang with.

Oh, but MK DOES do this!! Remember this DISC personality type thing? MK adores those I people because they’re trouts who will work for trinkets and shiny objects. The D types get it done, and the S and C are not fast movers and ask too many questions.

  6. “Mary Kay treats women like thinking adults who are the best judge of their own character and personality, and who can decide for their own selves whether they can succeed in the company.”

::falls of chair laughing:: Mary Kay gives out actual coloring pages that you actually color in to keep track of your progress. Someone here once said when she was qualifying for her first car she was sent a quarter cut out of a poster of the car every month she bought enough stuff… er, made production so she could tape the quarters together and visualize her dream coming true. That’s what you do with kids saving up their allowances in order to buy a skateboard. It’s just damn insulting to grown-up professional women looking for raises and promotions.

“The fact that they do not hold extensive personality tests..”

Hi. I’d like you to meet the DISC system, beloved of Mary Kay. In fact, I’ll link you to an article including a Mary Kay handout outlining the DISC system and how to manipulate each of the types into falling for your spiel: https://www.pinktruth.com/2017/08/31/d-i-s-c-manipulation-in-mary-kay/

There are companies out there who rely on Meyers-Briggs and enneagrams and whatnot, but they’re in the minority. There’s no scientific basis to them and that tends to be regarded as bad or lazy management.

    “…and interviews…”

No interviews, because savvy candidates know that the point of an interview is to find out if the job would suit them, as much as it is a chance for the company to see if the candidate would be a suitable employee. Interviewing someone means she might ask for specifics and not be content with the nebulous non-answers about executive wages and part time work. She might say something negative about Mary Kay, or worse yet, say something to make YOU think negatively about Mary Kay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No, far better to sign her up on the spot without giving her a chance to think about it.

“…to see if there is a personality match is smart on their part because they show that they are not judging a woman and her ability to succeed in the business.”

:: puts cushions on floor and falls over laughing again::

Then explain this: https://www.pinktruth.com/2024/01/22/a-quality-mary-kay-recruit/ This is the list of “desirable” traits in a recruit (basically, she has easy access to money and belongs to a stereotypical white middle class American family) and “undesirable” (actually needs money, is young, and doesn’t conform to 1950s family values).

“Before I joined Mary Kay, I asked anyone I knew who had left selling the product why they left. Not one of them told me they didn’t make any money or that it was a pyramid or a scam.”

Unreliable reporters. In the no-negativity-allowed atmosphere of MK, admitting failure is a worse sin than Adam’s.

“I had two tell me that they left because their husbands had problems with them working.”

If that’s indeed the truth and not a face-saving lie (remember, no failure allowed) I’m sorry they married insecure jerks.

“I had one tell me she left because she was overworked at her regular job and her husband would not help her with the baby and she was contemplating divorce.”

Good. I hope she did dump his lazy ass in a ditch.

“In other words, everyone I knew who ever sold MK and stopped had stopped b/c of personal problems, not b/c of any of the allegations listed in this site.” That they’re willing to admit.

Sorry, sweetheart, my wide ass and I remain unconvinced and unimpressed.

  7. “can’t stand the idea of any woman having ambition, a positive and uplifting product, or success”

I guess it depends on how you as a person measures ambition, positive uplifting products, or success…. It’s different for everyone

For one of my friends ambition could be just making it to the gym once this week for another being positive could be that she got a job she was worried she wouldn’t get a chance at because she felt she was awful in the interview, for another an uplifting product could be something she has been wanting to buy for months and finally decided she deserves to have it and bought it, and for another success could be that her 6 year old finally finished his math homework without getting frustrated.

I support all my friends and their different life experiences.

None of those words for many of us here means being rich, driving an expensive car, having expensive purses, jewelry, make up , steel tumblers etc…

Yet it seems to be for the majority of people selling an MLM product…. And they seem to be some of the most unhappy people I have ever met.

  8. Your social security is structured in a pyramid and that’s why it is collapsing. But MK is no where near failure.

Don’t conflate the success of Mary Kay, Incorporated, with the success of its consultants. In theory, every single consultant could go bankrupt, but MKI would still be a successful company as long as those consultants keep buying product to try to resell. You aren’t an employee of Mary Kay, neither do you own stock in the company, so MKI’s success is not your success.

So tell us about your success, not MKI’s. Have you ever sat down and added up your total expenses (not just product, but everything you have to spend to keep yourself in business) and then compared them to the money you make from actual sales? What is your profit (or loss)? Do you keep track of the total hours you devote to Mary Kay, so you can calculate your hourly pay?

If you don’t do those things, why not?

If you do, and if the numbers show that you’re really succeeding financially, then why don’t you talk about that, instead of just tossing out mean-spirited putdowns like “people who have an axe to grind” or “reaping failure while sitting on your wide one”?

If all you have to offer are insults, how can you expect to be taken seriously?

    13
    • “If you do [keep an accurate ledger], and if the numbers show that you’re really succeeding financially, then why don’t you talk about that, instead of just tossing out mean-spirited putdowns like ‘people who have an axe to grind’ or ‘reaping failure while sitting on your wide one’?”

      This is brilliant Peggy!

(Spoiler alert: PTC does not keep an accurate ledger. If she did, as you pointed out, she would have written a very different post indeed.)

    • Yep. They always essentially say, “You are flawed for not believing in my cult.”

It is part of cult psychology to convince the member they are smarter and better than non-believers.

Also, “work” is never specifically defined.

  9. It’s actually kind of sad, I remember being that delusional (it’s embarrassing now to look back on it).

No , the women here are not lazy people who are afraid of work. If you read you would see that the majority here worked their tails off and just realized that the plan isn’t what they were told. Many of us leave for big reasons and wake up to all of the lies once we realize that our “exit isn’t as graceful as our entry” and our “sisters/girlfriends” are only fair weather friends. Then all the other lies of the company start to come to light as if we are coming out of a drugged haze.

I had a decent sized unit and did a 20/20 the month before I decided to leave. I completed diq in 3 months vs 4 and had several red jackets in my unit.
I now run a company with 37 employees quite successfully (so lack of business sense and hard work are not taglines you can use on me).

    In MK
Yes there are quotas – but rather than by force they are by peer pressure and religious manipulation. Being “on target” for anything is a tool your director will use on you to make you “puuush” and “beelieve”.

It’s interesting that “doing the work” is often said by directors but the orders are really what gets the recognition. It would sure be interesting if the company actually tracked /awarded retail sales.

  10. Sorry, I believe you do have a quota. Don’t you have to place an order of a certain amount every so often to stay active??? Yep, that’s a quota!
